Myanmar (Burma) Meditation Retreat Offering

April 11 - 18, 2018 in Yangon, Myanmar

a sacred opportunity

The seven-day mediation retreat offering is during the nunnery's annual meditation retreat held in alignment with Thingyan - the annual New Year water festival celebration.  Thingyan is a time for cleansing ceremonies, deep meditation, community, and transition into the new year.  This unique offering coincides with Om & Roam's Annual Yoga Seva Project.  The Yoga team of teachers will be conducting the Yoga Seva project and we are fortunate to practice meditation at the same time.  You will be able to immerse into the nunnery setting, partake in daily yoga classes and practice meditation alongside the nuns and orphans.  Daily Mindfulness group discussions on topics including:  loving kindness & metta, forgiveness, and gratitude will be held by Marni Reynolds.

This is a beautiful way to practice and open your heart.

Daily Schedule

Below is a sample of our potential schedule. Please note that the yoga seva project will be creating a schedule that needs flexibility- we are encouraged to join in a variety of yoga classes.  Break times can be for resting, journaling or silence. Silence is an option for this retreat.  Also note that meals are vegetaritan and that fasting is observed during dinner. (Fasting through dinner is not required, but is an option available)

This is a self-funded trip and dana retreat.  Each practioner is responsible for purchasing their own airfare, travel insurance, and accommodations outside of their time at nunnery. Meals and accommodations are provided for us while we are staying at the nunnery.

There is a $150 non-refundable deposit for each practioner's deposit which serves to help fund project expenses; shuttles, supplies, etc.

donation offering

Our group will be living at the nunnery with housing and meals provided for us. We will be offering a donation to the nunnery at the close of our stay in an effort to help offset the expense of our accommodations. Our goal is to have each teacher donate a minimum $150 per teacher (~$22 per day/per person).  Anyone who is able to donate more is of course welcome to do so.

Contact Project Leader / Om&Roam Creative Director, Carly Gaffey:

The perfect balance of reciprocity unfolded in real time in Burma and reminded me of the importance and beauty of both giving and receiving. My body, mind and spirit were nurtured in a way I have never experienced before.
— Julie Rocho-Levine, 2017 Team
This experience changed the way that I see the world. It is the most intriguing and soul-awakening experience I have had. It has taught me to put into practice wisdom that I had been thinking about a lot, but it is only in living it, experiencing and feeling it, not through thinking it, that real change happens, and this opportunity provides an opportunity to do just those things.
— Fay Crowther, Om & Roam Ambassador, 2017 Team
First timer on this type of “project/retreat”. This was the most satisfying experience in my 58 years of being alive... Marni [team leader] is truly Divine, Wendy’s [team leader] energy and personality is inspiring, Carly, you just keep us all going, going, and going... I enjoy everyone, felt it was a well balanced group of special ladies. The post nunnery communications/support transcends, there’s so much love and community in these exchanges...
— Toni Tang, 2017 Team
