The Big Island of Hawaii - is on my list as “one of the top spiritual places on the planet.” This island has more mana (power), beauty, healing and transformative energy that makes other locations wish they were this delicious. It just makes your soul sing. It’s yummy in every direction from the gorgeous blue teal ocean; clean fresh salty air that shares sweet flower fragrances; to towering palm trees and flowing volcanic lava flows. The combination creates a unique landscape of harsh rock and peaceful rolling green tropical goodness. I love, love, love coming to this magical place and my soul know’s it - I can’t wait to get here every time, — it feels that good. The Big Island is also home to the Fire Goddess, Pele -pronounced /ˈpeɪleɪ/ pay-lay or [ˈpɛlɛ] pel-lə) she is Goddess of Fire, lightening, wind and volcanoes and creator of the Hawaiian Islands. Madame Pele or know as Tutu Pele is also known for her power, passion, jealousy, and capriciousness. Pele has become the most visible of all the old gods and goddesses. Dwelling in the craters of the Big Island's Kilauea Volcano, she has been sending ribbons of fiery lava down the mountainside and adding new land around the southeastern shore almost continuously since 1983. There is a tremendous amount of respect for this Goddess and legend states that having reverence and respect for her and the land that she has created is vital. She has been know to punish those that don't respect her land. For me, Madame Pele has given me the 'Fire" -the tapas, or pitta that I desired to make some major life changes and decisions. I have heard of many stories where people have had major life transformations with the assistance of the energy that Madame Pele instils. She is that powerful.
A week before I know I am going to be swimming with dolphins - I put extra effort into getting ready, lots of yoga, juicing, meditation and ocean time. Here are some tidbits that i enjoy....
Below I write about how I prepare for this experience with cleansing of the body - simple Ginger Tumeric Tea in the morning, to letting go of my fears as I jump into the ocean with wild dolphins.
Ginger & Tumeric Tea- while traveling a really enjoy this tea - in fact, I enjoy it every morning.
You’ve probably heard about the amazing health benefits of both ginger and turmeric. Ginger contains several antioxidants that help prevent and fight many diseases, and turmeric has especially powerful anti-inflammatory properties.
This combination of lemon, ginger and turmeric has an alkalizing effect onthe body. Plus, it promotes glowing, radiant skin.
If you’re having food cravings or you’re feeling hungry in between meals, you can also drink this tonic as well as lots of water before you reach for a snack.
I make this tonic once a day in fall and winter, usually in the afternoon. But, it’s also great to drink first thing in the morning, about thirty minutes before breakfast. It will help cleanse your liver and give you more energy for your day.
What you need for one person:
1 ½ cup of hot water
3 slices of fresh ginger
½ tsp turmeric powder or one slice fresh turmeric root
1 tsp raw honey
What you do:
Place ginger slices and turmeric in a mug, and add the hot water. Let it steep for five minutes.
Squeeze in lemon and stir in raw honey.
Enjoy this warm, golden tonic!
This refreshing recipe is a revitalizing way to start the morning, get your metabolism started and enjoy!
What to wear - I love to bring light colored clothes, blues, teals and whites when I think of coming to the Big Island and swimming with the dolphins. I use lots of essential oils and floral fragrances to lavish myself all up to soak in all the exotic senses that are floating by. The Hawaiian air smells like a combination of salt, flowers and tropical breeze -ahhh…. I pack my bags light - you don’t need much - good suit an amazing sunscreen, pareo and yes a journal - write and make your own dreams a reality -don’t get lost in someone else’s fantasy’s. I always travel with my travel kit shrine - my miniature Ganesh, a handful of crystals, my healing tuning forks, oils and intuitive cards and of course my yoga mat. I am trying out the new Lululemon Travel Matso far so good - — I can’t seem to figure out how to burn incense without everyone freaking out. I always clear the space that I am in and seal it, ask for protection and guidance.
I came to be a dolphin swim guide for an amazing one-of-a-kind ‘wild dolphin’ experience for some dear friends of mine. I did my usual early week of preparation to get ready to swim with these magical creatures; juicing, cleansing, yoga, meditation and heaps of prayer and gratitude.
Words can never, and I mean never portray the kind of experience we had yesterday — it took on a new language of its own. You have to come to experience it for yourself. Swimming with wild dolphins is exciting, scary (because you are all the way out in the ocean), and mystical. You mix that with a bunch of magical preconceived notions of sweet singing dolphins and you have no idea what to expect. Sweet surrender doesn’t even come close — its like ninja time — focused intention, open your heart and go for it.
As soon as we jumped into the water from the boat, 500 yards off shore into the deep blue, I sensed it was going to be life changing. As we fumbled with our masks and fins to get into position, the waves of energy that came before the dolphins swam by, was intense. It is a stream of consciousness that vibrate throughout your entire being. They are healing you - no doubt about it. You just hope you can handle it. There were hundreds and hundreds of dolphins, swimming, playing, looking and interacting with all of us. We swam beside them, observed them, never touched them and my favorite part, was swimming through their bubbles while they are resting on the ocean floor and exhaling. Dolphins are conscious breathers, so every bubble had an intention with it, I tried to swim through as many of those bubbles as I could. Gather as much dolphin consciousness as I could, why not?
After a morning of dolphin therapy it’s always good idea o keep the energy going with some restorative yoga, nourishing food, coconut water and the Kona breeze to inhale. Lots and lots of hydration is a must. Take the time to journal and write down your experience, help it to integrate into your own sense of wholeness, let it anchor in. These are the moments, these are the opportunities when the universe is saying hey did you get it? Did you hear? Where you listening to all of the awareness unfolding before you? How AWAKE are you?
